Herbal Remedies for Burns

When your skin gets exposed to too much heat, burns occur.
Burns can be classified as first, second, or third degree burns, depending on their severity. Self-care can be applied to first and second degree burns. However, if it is third degree burn you have, immediate medical assistance is required.
Third degree burns are characterized by the severe damaged sustained by the entire surface of the skin and the nerve endings.

To treat minor burns, these remedies may help:

  • Aloe Vera Treatment: Aloe Vera's soothing properties is always the first herb of choice when it comes to treating first degree burns.
Aloe Vera gel is now easily available from herb stores. Always keep a bottle inside your medicine cabinet as a handy treatment for pain and inflammation, especially for the ones caused by burning.
  • Calendula for Burns: Calendula tincture can help ease the pain associated with burns.
It can also soothe the tenderness on the affected area and promote the healing of the tissues. Just mix around 10 drops of calendula tincture in an ounce of water and apply it on the burn several times in a day.
  • Comfrey for Burns: Comfrey can be used against burns as well. Just apply comfrey oil or ointment on the affected area and it should heal faster. Comfrey facilitates the healing of the tissues. It also prevents scarring on the affected part. Get comfrey ointments from trusted herbal shops near you.
  • Blackberry Remedy: Blackberry has high tannis content which can help stop oozing. It can be eaten as is or added to meals, cakes, and pastries. Eat a good amount of blackberry each day if you have burns and you'll notice that they would heal faster.
  • Witch hazel for Burns: Witch hazel is another topical treatment that can be applied to the skin to ease the pain brought about by minor burns. It can also be used against sunburn. Witch hazel creams are easily available these days.
