Herbal Remedies for Dry Skin

Dry skin commonly occurs in the lower legs, arms, and thighs. It is usually associated with itching, scaling, and skin cracks. The signs of dry skin are most apparent during winter. When it is cold outside, heat starts to spread inside the body. It is also the time when skin loses its natural moisture the most, leading to skin peeling and dryness.

Dry skin can easily be treated with herbal medicines, although their use still depends as to what part of your body is damaged. Here are some of the herbal remedies you can use:

  • Aloe Vera for Dry Skin: Aloe Vera is used to heal, soothe, and moisturize the skin. It greatly helps on removing dead skin cells. Apply Aloe Vera extract regularly onto the affected areas and see good results in just a few days.
  • Dry Skin and Comfrey: Comfrey has natural skin-softening properties that are widely used in facial sauna centers. It reduces skin redness and soothes irritated skin. Comfrey is best used as a bath. Combine calendula and comfrey together to make the most soothing and relaxing floral or herbal bath.
  • Jewelweed as Dry Skin Remedy: Jewelweed is normally used as a relief for winter dry skin.
This herb is more commonly known as the "touch-me-not". It is a believed to possess medicinal benefits to heal skin disorders. There are products in the market today that are jewelweed-based like bar soaps and liquid sprays.
  • Treat Dry Skin with Sage: Sage helps moisturize and soothe the skin. It is used as main ingredient for most commercial herbal facial care solutions. Put at least 5 drops of sage with other essential oils in a bowl of steamed water. Then place your face on top of the bowl to capture the steam. It would help soothe the dryness of your facial skin.
  • Thyme for Dry Skin: Thyme eliminates dead skin cells that cause dry skin. It can help bring back the youthful smoothness of your skin. There are many thyme-based facial skin care products in the market today. Most of them are especially formulated for dry skin.
